It is with great sadness that I have to report that our friend Mark died in a plane crash yesterday morning.
I heard of the news this morning from our local news sources.
Here is a link to the story from the Cape Cod Times.
I'll post updates as I hear them. I still can't believe it.

More Alternator Pics |

Mike sent me another 25 or pics to post a couple of weeks ago... on the second or third prod I finally got them uploaded... he was rather polite about reminding me too, perhaps too polite, I didn't catch the reminder the first time :)

Thanks, Mike.
By the way... I notice the last FIVE sets of pics sent to be posted were from Siegelsbach. Food for thought.

MP Locator |
 |

Many of you have pointed out that the unit affiliations via the "Locate a TowerRat" pages are sketchy at best. Doof, Exile, and I can attest that is a royal pain-in-the-ass to maintain since it is totally manual, hence the sorry state of affairs. We just do not have a good module for handling this.
So, last year, we decided to do something about it: Create a website that is focused on finding people we, and you, have served with. After a lengthy search, doof found a software service that seems to meet our needs.
So, our proposition:
MP Locator.com Website
Part of the registration process is an option to list other website to which you belong as well as ID's, perhaps one of the most valuable utilities.
MPlocator.com is meant to be used by all MP's, not just towerrats. For now, the focus will be on location affiliation and a little bit of advertising for reunions. Not too many photo's (certainly not >5000!), no forum, no blogs (though there is a guest book for comments).
During the break-in period, for total access to all functions, donations for supporting the site are voluntary. If we get enough donations to pay for the site ($10 per year gets you "Supporting Member" status), then great. If we do not get enough donations but the site seems to be fulfilling a need, then we will have to think about restricting access in the future.
This voluntary fee business is going to make or break this new utility because Doof and I are paying the fees right now, which are not that bad, but the cost is based on the number of registrants and as soon as we hit 250 members, the cost doubles... when we have as many members as TowerRat.com has, the fee is about 4 times what we are currently paying and an amount that I will not be able to sneak past the boss.
We will also probably be offering "premium" services for a small fee (e.g. sending a mass emailing to everyone that fits a criteria you specify, like everyone who listed Fischbach under unit/location). Premium services are not really viable until we have enough members anyway and know what they want. The dream is for this website that will serve MP's in general, will help support the activities of TowerRat.com.
Please read the so-called FAQ's after you register regarding how to search for people. Keep in mind that as I post this, there are only 8 members (and I am three of them). You might want to read the 2nd FAQ, before you register to see how you might list the unit(s) you served with and when you were there (otherwise, you might want to go back and edit to make it easier for people to find you).
Give it a try.... Neal

1st Sgt Shelly Webb |
 |
| |
I started this site in 2001. I found a friend using a search engine. It snowballed from there.
A few years later I received an email from a retired First Sgt. S. Webb.
He was one of the biggest additions to the site. He improved this site with his get it done manner. He would not drop the ball on anything. He followed up on everything. He would take on any task that needed to be done.
I have talked to him a few times on the phone. We traded stories and talked about the site. One topic was the goal of my son Corey to be a soldier. Grandpa gave me a few pointers and introduced me to some people that could help my son with his dream of becoming a soldier.
The people Grandpa introduced to my son actually made it possible for him to enlist. There were questions of his physical and contract that were handled.
Corey graduated from "Jump School" on a Friday. He called home and said he had no travel arrangements. (which I thought was odd) He said he was getting a taxi and go to a hotel, because he was supposed to clear the barracks.
I was stuck. I called Grandpa and told him the story. Grandpa immediately dropped what he was doing & drove 2 hours to pick up Corey. He took him home and gave him a place to sleep. The next morning he took Corey to the Atalnta airport and put him on a plane home
As you all know.... my son is an Airborne Infantryman assigned to the 82nd Airborne in FT. Bragg. This would not be possible without the assistance of First Sgt. S. Webb.
Grandpa..... my family thanks you & yours. You are a class act. I sometimes wonder if I had a NCO like you in command, if things would have been different.
I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years.
Thanks Again TOP
Your friend and fellow TowerRat
