2012 All TowerRats Reunion

IMPORTANT REUNION ANNOUNCEMENT:

Please, if you're going to the TowerRat Gathering in August, get your registration forms and payment sent to Military Reunion Planners as soon as possible. We have until July 14th to have enough people paid to cover the bus to Walter Reed, the guided D.C. tour, and the banquet. After that date, I will be personally liable for a significant cancellation fee. We are about 20 people short at this time, and I really don't want to cancel these events.

I assure you the reunion itself will not be cancelled, but it would be a shame not to be able to have these events. For those who might have lost the link, you can find the reunion registration form here:

Tried to add the form as an attachment, but it's a .pdf and won't upload. If you can't access it from the link, drop me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send it by e-mail.

I was possibly planning a 2012 TowerRat.com reunion. I had planned on visiting the sick and wounded at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC.
Since the military is closing the Hospital this month, I had set my plans to the side. I am not planning a TowerRat.com in the near future.

Free free to let me know if you need me to post anything about a reunion you are going to or are possibly planning.

Hey you Pud Knockers

It has been awhile. Alot of shit has changed. I am still around. I check the site every other day.

I have kinda left the site alone for a couple of reasons.... One is I have been working alot lately. Another reason is I decided to take a break for awhile. The site was experiencing a little too much drama. I was constantly expected to clarify anything I did or would not allow on the site. I was peppered with emails about how I was violationg "Freedom of Speech". I find it funny that a site I established in 2001 and I have paid for & maintained without charging dues or fees that I am expected to allow someone to anything they believe in. I have created sections in the forum for Topics.. Stay on the topic. If someone starts a post on sitting in towers... nobody needs to state what they had for dinner. Don't hijack another TowerRat's post, it is rude. Start your own. If you were in the 556th don't go ocver to the 110 & stink up their forum. The 110th has been kicking the shit outta the 556th in posts anyways. (Props to the 110th)

This site was created For TowerRats by TowerRats.... Use it to find friends from the past, or share your stories. CHeck your bullshit at the door. It you want to post stupid shit I refer you to www.GoDaddy.com and you can make your OWN web site.

Ok... enough.. I will process all the applications in a timely manner. I will fix the Photo Gallery (my personal favorite part of this site)

Nukeblog

I guess I should explore the site more deeply. The old software had a glitch in the software in that only the last 50 blog entries could be seen by all registered members (although one could read all of his or her own blogs).

With the new software "Nukeblog" lists all the people who have posted and clicking on the name brings up a list of all their posts. Glad to see the improvement.

2009 Sock Drive

All,

My daughter, Abby, met Bulldog and a lot of others when we went to dinner at the Georgia 2008 Reunion. At that reunion, there was a lot of fun to include the issuance of Bulldog's missing sock from the Fort Leonard Wood reunion 07. I had the absolute pleasure of telling my daughter all about the missing sock story on the ride home to Alabama (about 2 hours), she laughed and laughed and laughed when I told her about Bulldog taking one of his ole smelly socks off and puttin it in Robbin's pillow case before she went to sleep that night.

The next day, Abby and I went to the local grocery store, when she spotted a sock in parking lot and wanted to pick it up, bring it home, wash it and send it off to ole Bulldog as a possible match. Before we left that market, she came up with an idea to collect socks to give to the homeless during the holidays.

Last year, she collected roughly 90 pairs of brand new socks and about $50 in cash contributions. As she attends a local Catholic school, she decided that the money should go to Sister Mary's food shelter, but the socks..... The socks were handed from her hands to the hands of the homeless at a local homeless shelter. She reported her actions in the classroom, where she got a big hug from her teacher and the other kids learned a lesson about giving to the less fortunate. She had a smile from ear to ear for a month.

She is ready to start the collection for the 2009 Holiday season and hopes that she can do better this year than she did last (Not everyone got a new pair of socks last year). Her goal is to get 200 pairs of socks this year and once again will give cash donations to the food shelter to help feed them after she hands them a new pair of socks.

Understanding that the economy has been and is very tough all around the country, any donations whether they be socks (new in the package) or cash is and will be appreciated by both her and her cause. I am so happy to have an 11 year old daughter who understands the necessity to give back when you are able to, because one never knows when they will need to reach out and accept it from someone... no matter how humbling it may be at times.

Your genorosity will be well appreciated and she truly thanks you in advance for making this possible for her to do both last year and in the years to come.

Groups

.
We are going to try this way to make it easier for people from the same unit to find each other.

The new software has a function called "Groups". I have created a separate group for each of the MP companies/units that have their own forum (I can create more, this was just a convenient list).

To Join:
1) Click on "Groups" on the left main menu.
2) Under the Bar "Join a Group", use the pull down menu to select a group.
3) Click on the "View Information" button to the right.
4) There you can see who else has joined. Click on the "Join Group" button on about the third line down.

This will add you to the list of pending members. It will also generate an email message to the moderator of the group to go to the group page and accept your membership (right now, that moderator would be me, although I would be happy to hand over the reins to anyone from a unit willing to deal with it).

Let's see how this works....

p.s. since I am the moderator for almost all the groups, I will be processing the pending members once a week (weekend probably) rather than every time I receive a notification... so don't expect instant service.

AND... I have added two fields to the profile information for each member (TR Unit 1 and Unit 2). Eventually I will figure out how to query the data base to produce a list by unit. Don't hold your breath on that one though.
