Nukeblog

I guess I should explore the site more deeply. The old software had a glitch in the software in that only the last 50 blog entries could be seen by all registered members (although one could read all of his or her own blogs).

With the new software "Nukeblog" lists all the people who have posted and clicking on the name brings up a list of all their posts. Glad to see the improvement.

2009 Sock Drive

All,

My daughter, Abby, met Bulldog and a lot of others when we went to dinner at the Georgia 2008 Reunion. At that reunion, there was a lot of fun to include the issuance of Bulldog's missing sock from the Fort Leonard Wood reunion 07. I had the absolute pleasure of telling my daughter all about the missing sock story on the ride home to Alabama (about 2 hours), she laughed and laughed and laughed when I told her about Bulldog taking one of his ole smelly socks off and puttin it in Robbin's pillow case before she went to sleep that night.

The next day, Abby and I went to the local grocery store, when she spotted a sock in parking lot and wanted to pick it up, bring it home, wash it and send it off to ole Bulldog as a possible match. Before we left that market, she came up with an idea to collect socks to give to the homeless during the holidays.

Last year, she collected roughly 90 pairs of brand new socks and about $50 in cash contributions. As she attends a local Catholic school, she decided that the money should go to Sister Mary's food shelter, but the socks..... The socks were handed from her hands to the hands of the homeless at a local homeless shelter. She reported her actions in the classroom, where she got a big hug from her teacher and the other kids learned a lesson about giving to the less fortunate. She had a smile from ear to ear for a month.

She is ready to start the collection for the 2009 Holiday season and hopes that she can do better this year than she did last (Not everyone got a new pair of socks last year). Her goal is to get 200 pairs of socks this year and once again will give cash donations to the food shelter to help feed them after she hands them a new pair of socks.

Understanding that the economy has been and is very tough all around the country, any donations whether they be socks (new in the package) or cash is and will be appreciated by both her and her cause. I am so happy to have an 11 year old daughter who understands the necessity to give back when you are able to, because one never knows when they will need to reach out and accept it from someone... no matter how humbling it may be at times.

Your genorosity will be well appreciated and she truly thanks you in advance for making this possible for her to do both last year and in the years to come.

Groups

.
We are going to try this way to make it easier for people from the same unit to find each other.

The new software has a function called "Groups". I have created a separate group for each of the MP companies/units that have their own forum (I can create more, this was just a convenient list).

To Join:
1) Click on "Groups" on the left main menu.
2) Under the Bar "Join a Group", use the pull down menu to select a group.
3) Click on the "View Information" button to the right.
4) There you can see who else has joined. Click on the "Join Group" button on about the third line down.

This will add you to the list of pending members. It will also generate an email message to the moderator of the group to go to the group page and accept your membership (right now, that moderator would be me, although I would be happy to hand over the reins to anyone from a unit willing to deal with it).

Let's see how this works....

p.s. since I am the moderator for almost all the groups, I will be processing the pending members once a week (weekend probably) rather than every time I receive a notification... so don't expect instant service.

AND... I have added two fields to the profile information for each member (TR Unit 1 and Unit 2). Eventually I will figure out how to query the data base to produce a list by unit. Don't hold your breath on that one though.
